Bees, Pregnant Mothers And High Fructose Corn Syrup
When high fructose corn syrup is exposed to warm temperatures, it forms a substance called HMF (hydroxymethylfurfural). HMF is a toxic substance that has been linked to DNA damage in humans and breaks down in the body to other substances that are even more harmful.
This is of major concern as many foods contain high fructose corn syrup. Soft drinks and fruit beverages such as lemonade are the leading products containing high-fructose corn syrup, plenty of other items — including cookies, gum, jams, jellies and baked goods — also contain this syrup. You can find a complete list here
Some commercial beekeepers also feed high fructose corn syrup to bees to increase production Researchers believe that it is this conversion from HFCS to HMF plays a role in “Colony Collapse Disorder”, the mysterious disease that wiped out one third of the honeybee population in the US.
The process of making HFCS is also murky you can read more about it on menstuff.org
